The True Story of William Grandstaff, “Negro Bill” of Moab, Utah and Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Negro Bill Canyon, (as of 2017, officially changed to Grandstaff Canyon) is a popular hike near Arches National Park. This short, (15 minute read) is the story of William Grandstaff who came to this area in 1877. A former slave, he did his best to stay under the radar. Yet 100 years after his death, he has been at the center of two controversies—-in two states!

What Reviewers are Saying

I grew up in northern Utah but didn't know much about southeast Utah. I have been to Moab many times but not to Negro Bill Canyon. This short history was very informative and well written.
