MAGICAL: The true story of Jane Pendley’s life growing up in Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona (Arizona History)

One of my favorite places in the world is Oak Creek Canyon. Oak Creek is about 20 miles south of Flagstaff, Arizona, and just a few miles north of Sedona. For me, it is a beautiful canyon, filled with wonderful memories of swimming, hiking, great times at Slide Rock, picnics and camping. One of my favorite stories I have written is about Jane Pendley, who arrived in the canyon at age 6, and spent her entire life there. While talking to her granddaughter, Kathy Pendley Shaw, Kathy described Jane’s life in Oak Creek as, “Magical.” I thought to myself, what a perfect description! You will love this short story, about a 20 minute read, whether you have enjoyed time here or not. This story is featured in my book, Unbreakable Dolls, available in Print, Audible, and eBook. This book is unique in that it has wonderful color photos of the historic home, apple packing shed, scenery, garden, orchards, on the old homestead as well as old historic photos.
